Visual Studio Code bares close resemblance to Microsoft's Visual Studio, but it has much more to offer, including a wide range of revision and compiling utilities, as well as a modern and elegant user interface, which can make things more comfortable. This powerful IDE has everything you need to build web and cloud applications. You can design, build, test and package applications with this single tool, so you don't need to have countless programs installed on your computer.

The software is available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. It can be installed quickly, without too much effort, but you will also need to have Git installed on your system, though it is not a hard requirement. Visual Studio Code is offered as a freeware solution, so you can use it for as long as you want, without paying anything.

When it comes to editing code, you can work with various languages, including, but not limited to, C#, C++, HTML, Java and PHP. You can expect to find all the essential features that any editor would provide to make your work easy, as well as Visual Studio Code's own special functions. Furthermore, the software's Git control is one of its central features. It's what gives you the possibility of testing, debugging and performing many other advanced operations.

Designed with conveniency in mind, the user interface can really make things simple for you. You can open up multiple projects, on separate tabs and it is even possible to split the interface in two or more panels, so you can have multiple bits of code on the screen at the same time. Additionally, the software displays your output, a debug console, a terminal, as well as any detected problems, on separate tabs, in the lower region of the main window.

Opened projects and editors can be brought up in a list, on the left side of the interface, where you can also access a search function, source control providers, debugging options and plug-ins. Another useful feature is the large number of code snippets the software places at your disposal. Large chunks of code, which you'd normally have to type more than once, can be found in a drop-down menu and inserted into a project instantly.

From writing code to compiling it, everything can be done in a comfortable and efficient manner, thanks to Visual Studio Code's smart design.

Pros

The software modern design lets you work in a comfortable manner. It comes with a wide range of useful features, including Git control.

Cons

There are no obvious issues to address.
